8/29/2023 0 Comments City of compton history![]() So that was like my first time being exposed and also having a history and legacy in Compton. Growing up also have the weird dichotomy of going to school in Compton or living in Compton and going to school elementary schools in Culver City and seeing, well, why am I the only black kid in so many of the classes, but then I’m only surrounded by being with my friends from church or from my community and my Latino friends. So my origins come from the city, particularly rich in farms growing up and seeing poverty, but also being connected with, like my neighbors who come from El Salvador, who come from Mexico, and trying to bridge the gap between the Black and Brown communities that exist. My father’s origins are Kenyan, or he comes from Kenya, from Nakuru, Kenya.Īnd he met my mother in the late eighties in Compton, California, of course. I think it might be enough to get people to care.Growing up in Compton, California, my whole life, I definitely had a unique story. Compton has always been really persistent when they know what they want. People do go to Richland Farms, they go to East Rancho Dominguez Park, they go to the historic post office. At the very least, if something happens to these places, people’s outrage isn’t going to die out. ![]() And for now, all we can do is make sure that people know about these places. The protection for these places is going to have to be grassroots. The planners are dealing with other things-trying to get the streets fixed and dealing with a new school building, for example-and they have a limited amount of money. But Compton only has three city planners. Los Angeles and Pasadena can fund this type of project, and they can support a set of planners that focuses on ordinances and design review. But for that to happen, the city would have to invest in it. Maybe you can’t tear down a house to build a multi-family structure, for example. Some of these buildings and areas would really benefit from legal protections, like becoming a cultural district. A good next step would be a public forum to find out which resources in Compton people really care about.īut after that, it gets a little tricky. There is a list of historic places on the city’s website, but it’s not extensive. What steps do you think should be taken to preserve historic Compton while respecting the community that lives there right now?įirst and foremost, people need to know exactly what those places are. It’s never been a rich city, but it housing is affordable and its environment is stable. I’ve always known it to be a quiet neighborhood. I’ve always lived in Compton, and I’ve never felt unsafe in the city. And in the past three years, Compton has seen a lot of new development. Since then, rates of violence have gone down, and programs that effectively discourage violence in young people have been created. And the media perception that Compton is a dangerous place still follows the city today. While N.W.A.’s music was mostly hyperbole, this image of Compton stuck in the American mind. created a lot of negative media attention around Compton. The city didn’t have a reputation for being dark and dangerous until groups like N.W.A. And when they left, they took their tax base and businesses, and that left Compton with a large income gap. The first gangs in Compton were actually white.īy 1965, the African American population had reached 40%, but it wasn’t until the Watts riots that white residents started to leave Compton in droves. A white gang called the Spook Hunters tried to keep black people off the streets after 5 p.m. In response to African American migration, some white residents left, but other people like burning crosses on lawns. At the same time, developers frightened white residents into selling their houses and leaving the city. Developers bought land to create housing for African Americans who wanted to move out of South Los Angeles and into middle class comfort. The Los Angeles and San Pedro railroad ran through Compton, so farmers could easily send their crops to the San Pedro harbor and to Los Angeles that quickly led to economic growth.Īfter restrictive housing covenants were struck down in the 1940s, demographics in Compton began to move away from being predominantly white. Talk to me a little bit about Compton’s history and its historic resources.Ĭompton was one of the earliest suburbs in America. 8/29/2023 0 Comments Vitamix glass blender jarIn comparison, wet jars, which come in three sizes, 64 oz, 32 oz and 48 oz - are engineered to pull your ingredients into the blades, thus aiding in the liquefying process. The Vitamix dry container blade design is also engineered to prepare dough by simulating the kneading process. The blades on this container are different from the wet jars and is designed to push grains away from the blades, thus limiting material packing at the bottom of the container. The Vitamix dry container is designed specifically to grind grains into flour and to mix batter. There is only one dry jar and it comes in the 32 oz size. Let's begin by deciding whether you need the Vitamix dry container. ![]() If you already own a Vitamix or not, you may wonder which additional jars are necessary from all the products above. In other words, don't get a blender for your container, get a container for your blender. If you don't have a Vitamix yet, you really should research which vitamix to buy FIRST and purchase the model and features that are best based on your needs. So, if you're planning to purchase a Vitamix, which jar should you get for it? Yet the low profile Vitamix 64 oz container can't do smaller portions. That said the low profile Vitamix 64 oz container with a wider 4 inch base may require less tamping with certain blends.
8/28/2023 0 Comments Coyote ragtime show ep 1It's a consistently comedic show (Episodes 5 and 9 are CRS' funniest) and an attention-grabbing space-oriented drama full of emotional moments. Why did Marciano kill Franca's dad? What happened to Franca's mom? Why did the Federation (the "righteous" people ruling the galaxy) and the rebels hate each other? Regardless, Coyote Ragtime Show is more than your average action anime. At the conclusion of this anime, there were several crucial plot holes that were never noticed. One of my favorite things about this anime is its closing theme, an excellent, pathos-fueled claymation sequence (The closing theme plays in Coyote Ragtime Show's final fight and, for me, it pulls heartstrings). A central theme, the only theme, in Coyote Ragtime Show is loyalty, sticking by your loved ones through thick and thin (There's even an episode titled "Never Change"). Various electric guitar pieces perfectly complement the fast-paced intensity of CRS, and other instruments are thrown in there as well. Although the opening for CRS doesn't really stand out, it still remains fairly engaging and it doesn't diminish the excellence of this show's soundtrack. Marciano is the Frieza to Mister's Goku, the perfect counterpart to CRS' protagonist. The Twelve Sisters are led by the merciless Marciano, CRS' central villain, the cold-blooded killer that murdered Franca's dad and countless others with a disturbing lack of remorse. There was one scene in episode 6 where October, November, and December are pursuing Mister in a crowded city and a building was supposedly "in their way" so they torpedoed the thing until it was nothing more than a collapsing mass of smoke and flames. Coyote Ragtime Show also has its share of villains, which include the Twelve Sisters, ruthless robotic girls named after the months of the year – for example, one's named January, the other Feburary and so on. The Coyote crew does a great job at maintaining CRS' easygoing mood, along with the investigators chasing Mister: private eye Angelica Burns (a lover of food and a certain criminal) and her apprentice Chelsea, an illiterate young woman blessed with perfect memory (Her voice is the same one later used for May Chang in Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood). The members of Mister's crew are Franca (the daughter of pirate legend Bruce with a voice (about 18 years old) older than her appearance (10-12 years) and an intriguing internal conflict about her self-worth), Katana (the light-hearted mechanic with a passion for food and a confidence that rivals Mister's), my favorite character Bishop (the laid-back co-pilot that's useless at pretty much everything and always finds an opportunity for a one-liner), and Swamp (a rare African-American character in anime, a chubby, mustached preacher who had a close friendship with Bruce and constantly bickers with Bishop). ![]() Enveloped in Coyote Ragtime Show is a complex cast of characters. ![]() To me, Mister is a huge factor in making this anime into what it is. Mister is famous in the criminal underworld for wrecking havoc on various planets simply because he feels like it but, beneath the gruff exterior, Mister has a heart of gold. CRS' premise was interesting by itself but how the narrator described this anime at the end of the trailer really grabbed my attention because it wasn't any anime it was the "chilling, thrilling, killing, blood-spilling ride called Coyote Ragtime Show." What action lover wouldn't want to watch that? As one might've guessed in the previous paragraph, Mister is the main character of Coyote Ragtime Show, a cigar-chomping space pirate with an unforgettably raspy voice, a confident old man with razor- sharp wits and vivid storytelling, and the charming captain of the ship Coyote with strategies galore, tons of aliases, and a loyalty to the people he cares about. My introduction to Coyote Ragtime Show (CRS) was through a trailer, a passionately narrated 1-minute video that presented a very simple synopsis: an outlaw named Mister searches for money on a doomed planet while being hunted down by two women, both of them wanting him dead. There are a couple of ways that I discover new anime to watch: from reading the manga, from reviews, from word-of-mouth, or from reputation. 8/28/2023 0 Comments Mxgp 2021 split screen![]() There's also a more straightforward track editor for the player to create some challenging circuits with, and although neither mode reaches the track building heights of DIRT 5 they are nonetheless likely to find some use. This at times may result in subpar installations. As mentioned earlier, installers of thin bricks are not fully aware of industry standards or manufacturers’ directions and rely on their on-the-job training experience. Products have to be installed per manufacturers’ directions and industry standards for the warranty to be valid, and therein is the challenge. It is important to note labor and material warranties are not like ‘no-fault insurance’ policies. The TCNA installation methods also apply to adhered thin brick applications. In this author’s experience, the best way forward would be the use of the Tile Council of North America (TCNA) Handbook for Ceramic, Glass, and Stone Tile Installation that will help specifiers select and reference in the documents the appropriate installation method. The installer is a craftsman with the skills to do the work, but they need the architect to specify the method. Reference standards do not provide the detailed installation methods an installer needs to know. They also tend to rely on calling out the standards without providing detailed execution instructions, thereby deferring responsibility to the installer. It is advisable to specify ‘or equal’ performance as long as manufacturers can provide the required performance and warranty.Īrchitects often provide a reference specification that only mentions industry standards and building codes. For instance, the installation system employed in the Brickyard Campus project qualified for a 15-year labor and material warranty. In this author’s experience, it is best to specify a single source installation system as they ensure compatibility between the products and usually come with extended warranties.
